Half a life in the shadows
Turkey is the only islamic country where homosexuality
is no longer a crime. Still there is a long way for Turkish
queers to have their sexualt accepted as such. Half a life - Yarim
Hauatlar is a brave documentary and an important view to the attitude
towards homosexuals in the country applying to European Union
membership.
Documentary presents three gay men, one lesbian and one
transgendered woman, who talk about their life, their thoughts
and about how people react to them. Even though in Istanbul
there are gay cafés,
clubs and magasines, openly gay people are still ignored or
intolerated. This is why many decide to stay in the closet
from their family and colleagues.
