Paternal Instinct
Paternal Instinct
documentary, USA 2003, 74 min
Mark and Erik have been together for ten years and they decide to get children. Of their own. This documentary follows them for two years, through findind a woman fit to be a surrogate mother, to making a deal with her, and through her pregnancy.
This rewarded film introduces us to the main charactersí families, and communities they live in. The menís parents support their choise as do the husband and the teenage son of the surrogate mother Wen. Paternal Instinct is a humane real-life story of people with a shared goal. At the same time it shows a softer aspect of the surrogate mother issue: renting a uterus does not have to be cold business.
