The classic film tells about Georg (Beryl Reid) who plays a cheerful nurse on a BBC radio soap opera and lives together with her younger lover Childie (Susannah York). When George?s character is to be written out of the show, the only job offered is a voice of a cow on a childrens tv program. This and George?s doubt of Childie?s faithfulness leads George into a bitter mid-life crisis.
